Solid brick walls can be insulated internally or externally to reduce heat loss.

Only fill your kettle with the water you need. You will save both water and energy.

Fill a jug with tap water and leave it to cool in your fridge. You’ll save water by not having to run the tap for ages to get a cold drink.

Some vulnerable people need to keep their homes warmer than normal. However, most of us can save money and energy by dressing for the weather and putting on a jumper before turning up the heating.

Switch off radiators in any rooms you are not using regularly and keep internal doors shut to save energy.

Think before your print. Reducing the amount of material you print has a long list of benefits including saving paper, chemicals and electricity. More and more offices and industries are going paper free, so think about how you can reduce any printing you do.

Remember to turn off the tap while brushing your teeth – a running tap wastes over 6 litres per minute.

Make sure your radiators are clear so they can heat the space efficiently. Curtains or furniture can easily block them.

Thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) help ensure your heating is evenly distributed where you need it. Check them to make sure they are set properly so each area reaches the temperature you need and gets no hotter.

Smart controls can help ensure your home is comfortable and energy efficient.
